With over 2.5 billion online game players across the world, the GameFi industry shows strong signs of growing into a trillion-dollar market over the next decade.

GameFi has seen its popularity explode in 2021 over the rise of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which are unique digital assets whose ownership can be verified on the blockchain. The NFT market exploded, so much so marketplaces selling these assets became unicorns.

GameFi, the financialization of the over $175 billion video gaming industry, was a massive trend in the cryptocurrency space last year and is expected to keep making headlines in 2022.

GameFi takes advantage of NFTs and decentralized finance by allowing users to earn in their games and effectively created new play-to-earn models.

Play-to-earn (P2E) games allow users to earn by playing more and come to replace the controversial play-to-win model, in which users with more resources simply sink more money into the game to get ahead. By allowing users to commit resources to liquidity pools and creating valuable, interchangeable in-game items through NFTs and competitions, P2E games make it worthwhile for players to spend time on their platforms.

Blox Defense was built as a tower defense game. Throughout the history of gaming, the Tower defense genre was loved by almost everyone, every age. Take an example of Plants Vs Zombies, a game loved by everyone, growing into many versions, first released in 2009 and still played by millions daily. That’s why, we choose to bring this genre into the GameFi, making everyone once more enjoy the game with the best reward ever: real assets and money.
